Title: Sky’s the Limit Alpaca Yarns

Description:

We will discuss the structure of the two breeds of alpaca fiber, cleaning, and preparation of the fiber for five different styles of yarn and explore how alpaca blends with silk and wool to produce yummy yarns with warmth, drape and sparkle.  The techniques will include, but are not limited to, woolen spun, worsted spun, on the fold textured, cloud yarn, and core spun novelty yarns. There will be a discussion on how and when to “bloom” alpaca yarns for the best appearance and use.

Level: 

Advanced Beginner – student must be able to spin a continuous yarn and understand the workings of the wheel that they will use in class.

Materials Fee: $15


Students Should Bring:
  • spinning wheel
  • several bobbins
  • all accessories
  • oil/lubricants
  • a Kate if you have one.
  • hand cards, flickers, and fiber combs if they have them
  • Note taking materials and labeling materials may be needed
